This just reinforces my belief (yes, I have faith.) that religion is merely a tool created by humnas to control other humans. Of course, I do enjoy singing southern hymnals with Matt. It's been my experience that the North has a similar amount of racists, religious nuts, antigovernment malitias, etc. than the South does. The difference is that in the North, it's considered polite to be more reserved about these things, whereas in the South, they show much more pride in being public about them. Therefore, there isn't more nuttiness in the South, Southerners are just more up front about their nuttiness. As the "angry black man" from the South that I roomed with for a semester in Iowa told me upon coming to the "liberal" north, he found that he came to appreciate the "racist he knew" over the the local ones he had to geuss about.
